"Italian salad dressing" doesn't really have roots in Italy. Although Americans use this dressing for everything from salad to marinating chicken, it just isn't a thing in Italy. In fact, pre-packaged dressing is almost unheard of in Italy. Oil and vinegar are brought to the table whenever a salad is ordered and the waiters never ask what kind of dressing the customer would like."
