as described it just takes a small screwdriver and small pliers to get the flange bent up. Once you're ready to re-install, make a holder by drilling a clearance hole for the socket in a piece of 2x4 wood. Then use the domed end of a ball peen hammer as the "die" to re-spread the lip once it is re-installed in the new or re-finished plate. Works like a charm and yields a nice, tight fit.
