Does anybody know of or remeber this car racing?

Yep..Sure do..I owned/raced this car for a short while..The picture link is my Webshots page..The car was originally built in 69' for NHRA SS/JA and ran into the early 70's..The engine/car were prepared by Ross Gilberts of Gilberts Speedshop in Lancaster Pa..Ross wheeled a factory backed Hurst SS/AMX for Nolt Rambler back in those days and is still building race engines today.Hand written timeslips from Maple Grove raceway found in the glovebox showed the car ran in the low 12's and 108 MPH in legal trim..The AMX(not a Javelin!!) was sold off in the mid 1970's and the second owner blew the engine while driving the car on the street! Never racing the car,he put the car in a barn on his family farm where it sat until I acquired it a few years ago..Covered in layers of dirt, grime and animal dropping,The overall condition of the car was in pretty good shape, the crazy paint job that was done in 69' had survived quite well.I went over the cars mechanicals and built a 401 engine w/rare AMC Crossram intake and dual 4 bbl carbs, returning the car to it's former racing glory..The pics of the car racing are from when I ran it a few years back..Achieving a best times of 10.56 @123 MPH..In 2005 I located the original owner of the car and reunited him with his old racercar..He was overwhelmed with emotion and expressed interest in getting the car back..After racing the car for a year or so I felt it was only right that the car go back to it him..He has since installed a stroker AMC engine w/aluminum heads and is obviously out enjoying the old racer..There was talk of him repainting the car,I'm glad to see he hasn't done that..Love it or hate it,that paint job is one wild reminder of how things were back in the 60's and 70's..

You weren't in a Twilight Zone episode and this wasn't a UFO...The "No Deposit,No Return" AMX does exist and it's looking the same way it did almost 40 years ago....
