When dad was in the die room they would make 1/4 scale stamped components so that they could evaluate depth of draw, tearing of the metal, and other formability characteristics.
They made a batch of 1/4 scale Chevy small block oil pans and had a bunch left over after the business purpose was complete. He said for a while there anybody that was retiring or leaving the group would get one of these chromed oil pans mounted to a wood plaque as a going away present.
