This absolutely gorgeous 1962 Harley Davidson FL Duo-Glide Motorcycle is in show quality condition throughout. The striking black and white color combination is serious eye candy. The first model of the Harley Davidson FL Duo-Glide generation began to be sold to the general public in the year 1958 and falls in the touring category. As the engine indentation number indicates this example was born a 1962 FL which is a 74ci V-Twin Panhead engine. It was purchased by a gentleman in Michigan as an original machine with roughly 27,500 miles. This gentleman completely dissembled it and preformed a comprehensive restoration which was completed in the summer of 2022. Since completion it’s only been driven a few test miles. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased it from the gentleman in September of 2022. This 60-year old machine is truly remarkable in every sense of the word and ready to be admired by its next caretaker.

The appearance of this special example will take your breath away. The entire motorcycle was dissembled and every piece was either restored or replaced. During this process as many of the original parts were used as possible. The frame, swing arm and other black parts were media blasted. Everything was then prepped and powder-coated in the original color of black. The center stand was power-coated in silver and operates very nicely. All of the original exterior sheet metal was also media blasted with the exception of the front fender which was replaced with a new reproduction. Everything was then prepped and re-painted in the original color of black. The portion of the fuel tank was painted white which looks beautiful. The original wheel hubs were rebuilt and new stainless steel spokes were added. The wheels were wrapped with new 16” Shinko E-240 whitewall tires that complement the color combination perfectly. It’s truly a piece of artwork when you study the colors, upholstery and chrome accessories.

The design of this motorcycle is not only stylish and also very comfortable. Everything is well organized from the position of the handlebars to the location of the foot pegs. The decision was made two include two different style seats which were both re-upholstered. One is black and the other is black and white with chrome bars. All of the chrome is in excellent condition throughout. However, the chrome unit on the fuel tank that houses the speedometer is original and does show some patina. It’s equipped with new a wiring harness and switches.

The ignition lights, headlight, side lights, turn signals, brake light and horn are in working order.

Summarizing the specifications, it has an engine displacement of 74.00 ci and a total power of 55HP @ 7,200 rpm with a v-twin 4-stroke engine with kick start. The engine is highly detailed and was completely gone through. The lower end was inspected and everything looked excellent. The cylinders were bored and new pistons with rings were installed. The valves and heads were also inspected, ground and lapped. All of the gaskets and seals were replaced as well. The carburetor and generator were rebuilt. The transmission was also inspected and everything looked excellent. The primary and clutch were re-installed with new inner and outer covers. All of the gaskets and seals were also replaced as well. The original exhaust pipes were re-chromed and new mufflers were added. A new chain and chain guard were also added.

The entire braking system and suspension components were completely gone through. The front forks were rebuilt with new tubes and seals. The shocks were cleaned, painted and re-assembled with re-chromed covers, new top covers and new rubber mounts. The brake master cylinder, brake cylinder for rear brake, crossover pipe for front brakes and all cables are new.

Finding an example comparable to this one isn’t an easy task. This is a very special motorcycle that will be the new owner’s prized possession.
