That old bridge was steep, narrow and gave you a full case of white knuckles if you pushed crossing it too hard, let alone trying to pass someone after mustering up too much liquid courage at some of the local watering holes.

My parents met in Charleston while still in the Navy after the war. They loved the town and as a kid many summer vacations were spent there. That bridge scared the crap out of me every time we went over it.(I don't think my Dad was thrilled with it either.)
