The summit of the Chimborazo Volcano in Ecuador is the furthest point from the center of the Earth. Thought it was Everest? Nope! Because our planet is in the shape of an ellipse, its radius is longer at the equator than at the poles (21 km or 13 miles more). Chimborazo’s position makes it stand 6,384 km (3,967 miles) from the center of the Earth, versus 6,382 km (3,966 miles) for Everest.
