Default 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix

Guys,

my Z26 is already sold and tomorrow i have a look at a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 4dr. Sedan with 175k mls, cuz i need a new daily driver.

What do you think about the car or rather the mileage?
There are any Problems with the 3.8 V6?

Thanks for your help!

Reliable as an anvil. If nuclear war occurred tomorrow, the only things left would be cockroaches and GM 3800s.

As long as it's had regular maintenance (ask for records), I would have zero issues with buying a 3.8 with those miles.

Thank you for your posting. I was watching the car today with my girlfriend and we will buy it. The seller goes down to $2600,00 for it - yay!

Here is the VIN: 1G2WP52K1VF285303

Carfax found 15 Records. Maybe anyone can do the carfax?

I will appreciate this!

The car has some failures, but nothing special. We need it maybe for 2 more years, then we can start with our plans hopefully.

That's a pic from the seller:

We need a pair of Taillights, some Wintertires - latest in October, a rear mirror and some cosmetic...

Oh man, my wife has a 2000 Grand Prix and it is not a very good car. Get used to putting in power window motors and regulators. Save yourself some time and buy the ones with a good long guarantee.

Jochen,

I have two of these cars, both coupes, both Supercharged GTPs. 3800's are great, but 4T60Es in the non-supercharged GTs had a 4th gear spline design flaw (not hardened properly) rendering the car a 3-speed when it fails, and it will eventually. Cuts the gas mileage in half, just windmills in 4th but 3rd is OK. A $38US part you have to drop the drivetrain to replace.

Also, if the trans fluid is dark/brown it is usually not because the trans needs to be serviced. Be prepared for a rebuild soon if it is. They are cheap as all get out in the US, resale is nil.
