Default 1969 ZL1 Camaros

I was curios of the status of the 69 Camaros built with ZL1 Engines. How many are known to still exist? How many are gone & how many unaccounted for? Thank you, Joe

This is unofficial, based on observing the market for over 30 years.

ZL1 Camaros that still exist: <span style="font-weight: bold">46</span>
Original engine exists and is with the car: 18
Original engine exists but is not with the car: 5
Car exists with a non-OE engine: 19
Car exists unknown engine: 4

Original engine is defined as the VIN-stamped block.

Of the 46, some are restored, a few original, some restored to original racing livery. One is unrestored but is a race car. A few have production engines from other ZL1 Camaros. Several of the restored cars have been disclosed as re-bodies; others are suspect.

ZL1 Camaros status unknown: <span style="font-weight: bold">23</span>
90% certain to have been destroyed: 10
Limbo; some reason to believe they still exist: 10
No known history: 3

Of the 23, the 10 likely destroyed cars include 3 of the Merollis cars. They were on MSO when stolen; 2 were later titled. Probably all were recovered. Another stolen car remains titled to an insurance company. 4 of the limbo cars were still registered into the ‘90s; 4 others were raced since new and were known to exist into the ‘70s.

Of the ‘status unknown’ cars 8 original engines exist.

There is a high likelihood several of these 23 cars still exist.
