Sorry if this is confusing...
When obtaining a complete Warranty or over the Dealer counter Chevrolet Engine back in the day you were provided w/ a CE stamping (or earlier X type) or sometimes w/ the actual application Suffix stamping.. My question is, was CE stamped units available complete and if so would they ever have come w/ the little yellow Suffix sticker on the end of the Valve Cover?. If so would the sticker have had CE or the code to reflect the internals of the engines or would these stickers only be included on non CE actual Suffix stamped units?. Fran P. probably knew this one...anyone know for sure or have any thoughts?. ![]() ~ Pete -------------------- I like real cars best...the REAL real ones! |

Pete the 70 lt1 motor complete with bellhousing in it's original crate that i bought had the yellowish stickers on the valve cover one in front & on the same cover one on the back. Say's XCD & on the engine stamping it has the date with the XCD.Do a search in this topic for crate lt1 & i have posted pictures.

You can see in the 2nd pic on this 67 crate (no VIN) L88 where the sticker had been on the valve cover. That is original paint on those covers after all these years.

Thanks so far fellas!.
I remember the thread on your XCD Jeff...and Rick, great exanple as it's a '67 L88 'IT' crate engine that prompted my thoughts on these stickers in the first place!. (On a side note, did the '67 IT engines have painted heads?) Back to my original questions, were CE stamped units available complete w/ valve covers and if so would they ever have come w/ the yellow Suffix sticker affixed or were the stickers only included on non CE actual Suffix stamped units?. If the stickers were supplied on CE engines, would it have had CE on it or the Suffix code that reflected the actual internals of the engine?. ~ Pete ![]()

[ QUOTE ]
Most (all?) CE's were short blocks or fitted blocks, so no on the tag. [/ QUOTE ] Most likely the original valve covers were reinstalled on the CE replacement engine at the dealership which explains the tags.
