I thought a CE small block would be followed by a number designating the year. I picked up a 4 bolt block yesterday with a date code of L 13 0 and the the Pad numbers are CEA124471. Whats the A for ?

A designates that was an earlier issued number, but now a later reused number within the same model year.
Flint began their 1971 serial sequence service engine numbering w/20000,and ended with 49999.In your case, once they hit 49999 and found a few more were necessary, they reused #24471,this time with the letter A to denote that & indicate a late production engine as well. |
