I hate Windows 8.
Took a good 10 tries just to download Adobe Reader. Seriously? It doesn't come with Adobe reader??????? Then when it finally downloaded every picture and every folder with a picture is gone. GONE. All my pics of the twin grandsons in the last year. Gone. Fortunately, I had them all backed up on a separate external hard drive. Every document I created is gone. Glad I didn't buy this for the office. I hate that the bastards have to change everything every couple of years. What is it that is so f ing important that I am supposed to be able to do on this new Windows 8 computer that I can't do on my old XP? I bet nothing. The only computer I have that NEVER gives me any issues is 16 years old and running Windows 98SE. Of course, it is NOT hooked up to the internet, so no one can access it from on line. The one I run at the office that is online is XP. So of course, they tell me not to run XP after this month, because there will be no support. I hate Microsoft Word. I hate that they keep changing it. If I could, I would still use WordPerfect for everything (and I do for all my legal docs and client info, which by the way is on that 16 year old computer). But it turns out that I am like the last guy in the civilized world to use WordPerfect. Because the rest of the world insists on Word, I have to use it. After buying Office 2010 retail 3 times (one for each computer), my new computer at the house (with Windows 8) tells me it is invalid. I have the product key, and it recognizes it as a valid product key, but tells me validation has "failed". No, you sob's have failed. If it were up to me, I would still be using the 2002 version of Word. But then every time someone sends me a document in the newer (docx extension instead of doc.) document, I CAN'T OPEN THE DAMN THING WITH THE OLD VERSION. I guarantee you there is nothing that I can do with the new docx version that I couldn't do with the old version. No reason to change it other than planned obsolescence. Greedy bastards. I swear I am going to die in front of this piece of $hit. I am going to stroke out, it pisses me off so badly. Did I tell you I hate Microsoft?

I totally agree with you. I've only stuck with Windows since some of my work applications require it. Microsoft is sort of like ebay, they keep playing with it until it is no longer useable. I'm sure Apple has enjoyed/profited-from every bit of this (good for them). I can't count the number of acquaintances that switched to MAC and will never look back. Microsoft only stays in business because it got the biggest market share first and too many consumers/businesses jumped in and now rely on it. Too expensive to switch now and non-compatibility issues are a problem.
My background was in programming and it amazes me how Microsoft's products have evolved. Seemingly their products are designed by PHD's that can't relate to average users. They build and sell products that we may only use a fraction of their capabilities. Their software seems to be unnecessarily complicated and volatile, have been that way since the late 70's when I started using Microsoft products. Maybe good for turn-over and additional sales, but it is like a bad meal, you never forget. During one of my change overs from a failed computer and software about 10 years ago, I was amazed when I bought a computer with troubled windows software and they charged me to "attempt" to fix the software issues. Like selling a new car with major defects and not having a warranty. Anyway, I feel your pain. My XP on my mini-laptop has been one of the best Windows products to date, but will no longer be supported. My current computer uses Windows 7 with reasonable success. I'm just waiting for this one to crash and create a new round of headaches. I've heard numerous complaints about Windows 8. No first hand experience, but after 35 years, you'd think they could figure this out. How Bill Gates is richest guy around selling this crap is beyond me. Don't stroke out. Throw the damn computer out the window. You'll feel better. Ay Caramba!!! |

You know that you can run Windows software on a Mac. There are several applications that acts as a Windows environment on MacOS. VMWare Fusion let you have a Windows session in you Mac as any other Mac application. Works perfectly for those occasions when you have to use something Windows specific. There are even companies that have Macs but run their business systems in VMWare.
Here you see Windows XP runs in VMWare, I have one Vista as well. |

Jannes: Like Phil said, I am stuck with it for many things for business purposes. Sherri's computer at the office has windows 7 and she is OK with it.
I simply don't get why something that works fine needs to be constantly changed.

Don't get me started on Outlook. It sucks. 16 years ago I set up two Hotmail accounts. One for business and one for personal stuff. I figured Microsoft would be around forever, right? Also thinking that regardless of what provider I may choose, I will never have to change my email address on the letterhead. Seemed logical at the time. Fast forward to 2013. They shut down Hotmail and make me go to outlook. Takes 10 times longer to run. Sometimes I type a full sentence before it populates on the page. Have to wait forever between inbox and sent. All my "group" email stuff was lost in the changeover. As with everything else MS, I hate it. But.... I have had the same email address on my letterhead for 16 years, and really don't want to change it.

My windows based computer was so loaded up with virus software and other crap it just stopped working years ago. It sounded like it was running in turbo mode. I turned it off and have had an apple ever since and have never regretted it.
