Default 12 Bolt Gears

I just picked up a set of 5.13 ring and pinion gears.

The part numbers are 3936483/3936484. Both are dated 5/68.

I tried to Google the part number but I can't get any information on them.

I just want to make sure they are correct for a passenger car 12 bolt.

Thanks in advance, Kurt

Yes, Those are passenger car 12 bolt. To my knowledge, GM never made a truck 12 bolt gear with that ratio.

Kurt, I looked up 5.13 gears in the Heavy Duty Operation parts section.

I think they may be for Corvette. Parts book Group 5.529 shows Gear Assembly #3970552. It does not break down each gear part numbers.

5.13 Gear Assembly #3961195 says all except Corvette. Gear numbers are #3916234 and #3945177

Thanks for the reply Warren.

I looked in my Corvette parts catalog and it doesn't even show 5.13 gears but it does show the part number for the ring and pinion for all the other gears.

Kurt.

Default Re: 12 Bolt Gears

Anyone else have a 1968/1969 parts book that might show exactly what these gears are for?

My Corvette parts book is from 1980/1981. It does show all the gears available from C1 Corvettes on up but nothing for 5.13 gears. :-(

Otherwise, is a standard passenger car 12 bolt ring and pinion the same dimensions as a Corvette?

Thanks, Kurt

Default Re: 12 Bolt Gears

I had someone who frequents this site call me last night and tell me that these definitely aren't Corvette gears.

Well, he's correct, 63-79 Corvettes have a 10 bolt, 8.5" ring gear and a passenger cars have a 12 bolt, 8-7/8", which is what my gears are.

So this is good news as I might install them in the car sometime.....just for fun!

Thanks again for the replies and especially the phone call, Kurt
