Default 69 Z/28 Bell Housing Finish

Age old question. Leave it all cast finish, paint it orange, or blow in paint along the front flange including bolt heads? I've seen these done in each of the described ways and everyone claims their way is correct. Is there a factory correct way it was done out of Norwood?

Overspray heavy about 6 in back from block mounting flange. Coffee can over dizzy too. Let the orange fly. If you do it too neat, then it is not authentic.
Not that you ask, but the bellhousing is wrong for a 69. It is a 67 & earlier vintage. Solenoid on starter wrong finish as well. That is, if you want to be authentic?

Still looking for correct solenoid and I do have a correct 403 bell housing dated 1st quarter of 69. It's painted orange right now and wanted to see what was correct before refinishing it. I'll need to pull this one off to add the clutch fork after its been run again and plan to switch it at that time.

How do you tell the older bell housings from the later? Is it the GM logo that gives away the fact it's an earlier bell housing or the location of the part number. I checked my other housing tonight and cannot read the date code marker but it also has the GM logo atop the mounting flange and it came out of my 68. I might have another in the C-Can but will look when it warms up some more.

Spay it bolted on the engine , I agree with bbbentley . Overspray it , light edge coverage.
