First time working on an LS motor other than replacing heater hoses and throttle body on my 04 Denali. OK, so I am a bit behind the curve; sue me for being old school.
Replacing the engine in my son's 07 Suburban. Got his money's worth from the original at 300k miles. Still running reasonably well, but #7 is low on compression. Probably would not go to this trouble, but the vehicle has been very well maintained, body is in good shape, and we rebuilt the trans 20k mile ago. Given the prices of NEW vehicles, probably not a bad call. Fortunately, he doesn't have to have the newest and best. Very frugal, as are all my kiddos. Not sure I would have agreed to do this if I knew in advance how involved it is. Crimimey! Half the front end has to come off!!! But I digress. Reman engine did not come primed. I have made a contraption to prime it and will post that when I get to it. Need to pull the crank pulley (given the construction, I have a hard time calling it a "damper"). Got out my 50 year old SnapOn crank puller and was surprised to see NO threaded holes. WTH. Got out an old hub puller (Bonney) and DID figure out a way I could use it, but I would have to cut three 1/4 inch plates and drill them for 3/8 bolts. Seemed like a lot of trouble. So... I bought this POS from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBRKZ6MF...sin_title&th=1 No Freakin way does it work on this pulley. I KNOW a LOT of you guys have LS experience. Point me in the right direction. Which puller do I need for this job. Thanks in advance.

Auto Zone will rent you one, best bet.
I have a feeling you won’t be doing this again. Joe |

Only problem with some of the rental tools is you need the center bolt to be kinda long.

That looks just like the one I bought and sent back.
It did not work. It said it fit GM, Chrysler and something else. Ordered an adjustable one similar to what John posted. Will try it out this evening.

Since you are pulling the engine, maybe you'll need one of these too?
Flywheel holder: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/i...xoCwAIQAvD_BwE I don't remember if they are the same for gen III and gen IV. |

Bought this one. Worked fine. Only has about 1/8 of an inch of engagement for each hook; but it didn't slip.
Figured I might be doing another LS at some point, but didn't see a need to purchase a high end unit, as I won't be doing very many. I would much rather work on the vintage stuff. Now, on to priming. What a pita. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TKL85HF...sin_title&th=1
