You'll probably find that one of the aftermaket cam companies such as Crane is supplying GM. GM prices are pretty steep as well.

That IS a GM cam...same part number, same everything, and you will get the same thing from either Crane or GM. Crane makes the cam/lifter kits for GM, and they are one in the same. You can buy just the cam, or the cam/lifter combo...I didn't think it was too pricey, either, as opted for the cam/lifters, which ran me about $130. In fact, it's setting out my SS as I type this!

I have always found GM is cheaper than Crane. Same thing.

I quess if they make it to the exact original specs there's no difference.

Well, if I had to guess, there WILL be a difference, as the new GM/Crane is probably a lot closer to specs than the originals were! I haven't found a cam doctor (yet!) to check my new cam, but I think Jim Lerum had a friend run an original cam on a cam doctor, and the specs were all over the place. He was surprised, as was I.
