Default Bellhousing number and other numbers

Team, im putting together a 396/375 HP engine for a June 68 built car (protecto plate calls for Early June built engine). Looking thru the books im confused with some the recommended casting numbers to use.
Can you advise to the following?
Block casting
Head casting
Intake
Exhaust Manifolds
Water Pump
Distributor
Carb
Bell Housing
I appreciate the response . . or if there is a great place to find these accurately, let me know and thanks again for the great site and info.

Also looking to buy the correct parts with dates...

Some clarification - - cast iron heads would be an RPO L78 setup

- add Alternator number and fan blade to the list above

thanks again

Ed.....yes, RPO L78 is 396/375 iron heads. RPO L89 is with alum. heads of which only 272 were factory produced. The following are the numbers from a friends unmolested 4th week of April built 68 L78:

Block: 3935440 cast March 21, 68.
Head: 3919840 cast Dec. 21, 67.
Intake: 3933163 Alum.
Exhaust: (Smog) L. 3909879 R. 3916178.
Dist: 1111170 cast Feb. 20, 68.
Carb: 3923289-DZ assembled April 3, 68.
Bell house: 3899621
Alt: 1100814 (37 Amp.) assembled April 18, 68.

One place to start looking for parts is the Charlotte Autofair in early April at the speedway. Its a very large swap meet. In addition, I'am negotiating with a guy on some misc. parts. A 621 bellhousing is in the mix but we havn't made a deal yet.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Yes very helpful, thank your the info.....ill start the search now...keep me posted if you have anything....i think, if these are like the Z28 parts, the dist and alt might be difficult to find. Quite a variation on the dates to the built date. Assume this is usual?

Thank again...

The only casting dates that are unusal are the heads with Dec. 67 cast dates. Seems many of the 68 L78 cars got late 67 or very early 68 casting dates on certain parts.

One the other hand, many, if not most of the small blocks got casting/assembly dates much closer to the body build date. This includes the Z28 cars. A good example of this is my Van Nuys built 68 RS/Z28. All of the major components are dated within a week-to-ten days prior to the body build date. This seems to be the case with Norwood cars as well.

You may want to post the parts you need on this site under the 'Parts Wanted' section.

Gents....

Can anyone else chime in on 68 casting numbers and assembly dates? Both for big and small blocks? They seem to be elusive...............
