Default seat back release

Is there s special way to hold your mouth to get the little chrome release out of the back of the front seat bucket on a 70 Chevelle or Monte Carlo??? I know it clips in, but how do you get it out without breaking it???? Help............

Default Re: seat back release

If I was there,I could have them both out for you in 5 minutes.

*Take two Tongue depressors,or two old hack saw blades,or similar thin rigid item as the preferred tool.Usually a screwdriver is to thick or narrow for this.
*Make sure you put a piece of Cardboard down first next to the button perimiter to protect the seat back plastic.
*Slide the tongue depressors or hacksaw blades into both sides of the button,Left & Right,at the same time.(Use a Very small bladed screwdriver to first pry the button up a hair to get clearance for the tool.)
*There are two spring metal retaining clips on those sides, and you need to depress them HARD at the same time for best results.
*Make sure you do NOT slide out either tool on either side once you engage the spring metal retaining clip,or it will sink back into place, and you will have to start over & over..
You really have to apply A LOT of pressure to hear & see the entire button assembly "click" up & out.
If you don't care about the old button or seatback.Just smash it out with a hammer.
