Scott,
I think that alot of people are afraid that they may shoot themselves in the foot with an asking price (seller's remorse, after the second caller says I'd have offered $$$ more than you took). Otherwise, there are alot of people testing the water or trying to get the maximum the market will allow. I agree with you though, it is frustrating. You don't want to insult someone if you offer them a $$$ they consider to be outrageously low, but they don't give you many options if you're interested in what they're selling. ![]() Blair

As a Buyer and Seller of Many different things, (Antiques,Cars, Motorcycles, Real Estate, etc.)I have come to realize that Most "Seller's" like to be stroked in a subtle fashion. Never tell somebody that their Car is Junk or Not worth the asking price. At that point, you have insulted the owner. Instead try this approach: "I like your Car you are selling and would love to make a Deal with you, But My funds are limited to $XXX.XX." Now without insulting the Seller, you have made him aware that he has a Viable Buyer with $XXX.XX to spend. Thank them for showing you the Car and spending their time to do so. Then, Politely Leave them with your Name and Number. Now when some Jerk comes by and Insults the Guy and His Car by saying "I'll Give you This $XXX.XX Take it or Leave it!" The Seller recognizes that Here is another Viable Buyer with $XXX.XX. Who do you think is going to get the call? You Get more Bees with Honey than you do with Vinegar! Make the Offer! You will always miss the Target if you never shoot your Gun!

I AGREE DAVE IF THE INTEREST IS THERE U HAVE TO SHOW YOUR A BUYER AND STEP UP TO SOME KIND OF PROPOSAL TO TRY AND MAKE A DEAL.I JUST THINK THAT A SELLER WOULD WANT TO SELL HIS OR HER CAR OR PARTS WITH A SMOOTH TRANSACTION AND IF U ADVERTISE THE ASKING PRICE U WILL ELIMNATE 90% OF THE WINDOW SHOPPERS AND HAVE A BASIS TO START WITH.

It's really not much different from going to an auction sale. You make your offer/bid and so does anyone else that wants to. Why should the seller limit himself by putting a price on something when someone might just be willing to pay more. I bypass these guys but then that's just me. I don't dicker. It's their parts to sell in whatever manner that pleases them. If the price suits me, I buy. If it doesn't, I pass. I tune as much stress out of my life as possible. Works for me.

Personally I would never sell anything without setting a Price. Due to the simple fact that most people will not be bothered with playing that silly Game. as for Seller's Remorse, it Happens. My neigbor just sold a Honda his wife had since it was new. it is 7 Years old, He maintained it perfectly and it had 90,000 miles on it. He put it up for Sale at $4500.00 Dollars. the Car sold in 3 Days. Before he put it up for Sale He was hoping to get that much. when it sold so quickly, Now he thinks he underpriced it!! Some people are never happy. what he failed to realize is that demand for Fuel efficient Cars has risen and he probably could have commanded more. But He got what he initially wanted. and as far as the guy who calls after the sale saying how much more he would have paid, "Tough S%^T!" He is sour that he did not catch the ad first. He might Have showed up and been a Chiseler or a Tire Kicker more than likely with that Comment. Right now, I have a Car for Sale. It is advertised with a Price. In my Head I now what will make me Happy. If I get more than that number, I consider it a Bonus. If a Buyer Guesses that Number, then I am Happy and he gets a Bonus! The Key thing to remember as a Buyer or Seller, is to Relax a little. Don't be too anxious. The right Deal will Come along usually when you least expect it. So Be ready when it does ![]()

![]() Advice for what it's worth! When dealing with big ticket items, price it for sale a little higher than what your willing to take....duh! a buyer always feels better about the deal (and more importantly) and himself if you give some to. Who knows what the lowest price the seller would accept? Doesn't matter if buyer feels good! ![]()

Ya, that's what happens when people watch the BJ Auction. All of a sudden people think their cars are worth millions. Quit dreaming people. It's auctions like these that ruin the hobby and make these cars to the normal person a dream and a gold mine for the ones that don't want to invest in stocks. I myself am not in it to flip cars for a profit.

I agree, it's a "bonus" if you get more than what you believe you'd be happy with. Set the price where you want and be happy! There really is no such thing as "top dollar" anyway - what if I'd have advertised it there, what if I'd have waited a little longer to sell, what if.........

i agree with 12-bolt's first comment, i have purchased many cars well below asking price. go check out the car, tell them you really like it but do not have the funds and leave your phone #. you never know what is motivating the sale. most memorable was a 78 trans am asking price 4500 firm, i checked out the car, called back next day and told him i couldnt get a loan, when he asked how much i could come up with i only had $1200 cash so a couple of days later he calls back and we strike a deal for $1200 and a .357. i had the $ but just wasnt interested in the car @ $4500. point being, leave your # and let ehm know how much your willing to spend without being insulting.
