Green bumper crud?
When a chrome piece sits around for years in a damp environment it can get covered with a crusty green oxide of some sort. Does anybody know an easy way to clean it off...other than steel wool? Is there anything that will disolve it?

Its from the copper plating under the chrome I think Verne..actually the steel is pretty good to remove it...I dont know if you want to get chemically that deep to dissolve it

Try using an industrial volatile Toliet Bowl cleaner,not the standard household stuff.
Aim for the heavy duty stuff that has a skull & crossbones on it,and warns of caustic fumes. Cut it with a lil water first and if that doesn't move it,use it full stength but becareful as it may etch the plating now. CLR remover might help too,but I find it has the same ingredients as most household Toliet Bowl cleaners anyway.

Sounds like the Chrome plating is already getting a little thin. I've used the Eagle 1 Chrome Wheel cleaner and some 0000 Steel Wool with pretty good results. The 0000 isn't that agressive and doesn't seem to eat through the chrome like a scotch-brite or the more coarse steel wool. Just be sure to rinse it thoroughly with clear water pretty quickly.

I have the MSDS for that (also known as RidRust, Griots Garage rust remover, etc). It's phosphoric acid.
