I picked up a real nice 163 intake and I want to put the correct finish on it. I understand Jerry MacNeish does re-skining, but this intake is in nice condidtion. I'm wondering if there is something I can do myself, like a light blasting with ??, or polishing it with steelwool. What did the aluminum look like in the showroom?

Try glass beads followed by plastic media to tone down the finish.

My 569 was pretty krusty when I got it. I had it blasted first then I followed the advice of Kwhizz and Cumby and used the Eagle Mag Wheel Etching Cleaner. I took a full bottle and the intake to my local manual car wash and soaked it with the cleaner, let it sit a bit and then powered washed it clean. I did this a few times till the finish looked even. Then after it dried real good I took a fine green scotch brite pad and buff it out. I think it turned out great. Let me see if I can dig up some pictures...

I have used Alumiblast paint and painted the intake and it looks excellent and has held up great for over 10 years now on the motor.
