Default Rust versus Original Drivetrain

I am considering a '67 Z that is unbelievably original, but rusty underneath and wanted opinions on whether you value a rust free car without the original drivetrain more than a car that has had the floors and trunk pan replaced but is just about 100% original otherwise. All opinions appreciated. Thanks

Original drivetrain, as long as it's not a rebody. Most cars have some body work done....

Thanks Kurt - it certainly won't be a rebody if I buy it. I know some don't have a problem with that, but it's not for me.

Original drivetrain is preferable IMO. Save that car, Mark!

Kind of depends on your resources. How much money you want to spend. It is cheaper I think to do a motor and trans than to fix rust. I love original drivetrains, but I dislike rust more. If you build your self a real 302 with the correct dates you will be like 95% of the rest of the muscle cars out there. Re-bodies are really not the car at hand but a repro kit car in my opinion. The motors all look alike, but there is a difference in the Chinese sheetmetal. Rust just never sleeps! Good luck, Sam

THE DRIVETRAIN IS IMPORTANT TO ME. A RUSTY CAR CAN BE REPAIRED. THERE WAS ONLY 602 67 Z'S MADE, HOW MANY ARE LEFT? DO THE CAR... KP

For a more common car, the cost of repairing a rust bucket might outweigh the value difference for original driveline. But for a 67Z, no question.....original drive line will add more value than it will cost to repair the rust. Especially if it is confined to the floors.

Thanks for the comments guys. I had a friend view the car today and it is pretty rusty...much rustier than it was described to me. However, the drivetain is all there - even the distributor, carb, etc. I've made an offer but I doubt it will be accepted. The current owner thinks you can basically replace nearly all of the sheetmetal on and under the car and paint it for $6,000
