vintage car stereo question

I just found an NOS Sanyo FT489 (circa early 1970's) for the purple Cuda. It is missing the male half of the quick disconnect harness attachment that you would splice your power/ground/speaker wires into.

Does anyone have any idea what precisely this barrell-shaped, male section of the connection is called and where I could locate one? I believe it has 8 or 9 prongs.

The first photo is the Sanyo I bought, The second photo is off the internet of a complete harness with the section I am looking for.

That may be a tough thing to track down. My old Craig PowerPlay stereo had a plug like that. I don't know what that style of connector is called. Maybe somebody here might have something laying around from an old car. If not you could resort to removing that plug and buy a plug set that will accommodate the wiring. The wiring is documented on top of the unit so, knowing what's what isn't a problem. I would probably end up doing that. I know it wouldn't be original, but...

Yeah. I figured as a last resort I might change the plug to a modern one. I remember using those old multi-pin barrel connectors back in the day when these radios were new.

May be best snap individual leads into the female multi or you'll find the male one after cutting the factory female plug off.

With everything hooked up and confirmed working, you could mold a head over the individual males making it into a multi plug w/ bondo or a nicer one w/ something like JB 2-part epoxy which is available in black.

I've bought a lot of stuff from Crutchfield over the years. They provide install kits with the equipment they sell. Might be a long shot, but maybe they have some vintage kits still. Or you might try some local installers. I installed many stereos and always kept left over parts because it might come in handy. You might get lucky with one of them. Other than that, maybe try some swap meets and garage sales.

There are several non-working old Sanyos on ebay with the lead still attached (that's where I got the sample photo). I may have spend a few dollars and buy a junk unit to get the harness.
