Default COPO "MP" block question

Hi--

I'm new to the boards. I have located a full 427 engine with matching codes and an MP block, which I believe is correct for a 1969 COPO Chevelle. My question is this: the guy selling it says that there's no VIN # stamped on the block. Is this possible? He says there's no signs of restamping. What do you think about this? Not sure what to believe as all COPO engines I've seen have had a VIN# stamped on it.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Tom

Well, I guess I should update this a bit. I purchased the engine from a reputable member here on the boards. It was actually an MQ block, which is a 69 manual transmission Chevelle block. As far as we could tell, everything on the engine was pretty much as it should be and was in excellent condition. I'm really happy with it. Seeing as I have a '69 Camaro it's going in, I wish it were a MN block, but since it's a non-COPO car and the overall engine is in such nice shape, it'll have to do. haha.

Isn't an MQ Suffix block from a '68 Camaro L78 Stick car?.

If so, is this the same engine in your first post and you're sure there's no Vin on it?.

I think P.J. w/ the Motion '68 is still looking for his original and may be an MQ...last seen in NY State maybe too?.

In '68, there was an MQ code engine for the "Spec. High Performance" transmission 396/375. However, the engine block number would have to be 3916323. Mine is a 3963512 block. It's a proper '69 COPO block.

Yes, it's the one without the VIN#. Most likely, it was an engine sent to a dealer for replacement purposes. Doesn't appear to be decked or really ever even been used all that much. I'm fairly certain it's legit.
