Replica that is Thanks to Tim for submitting a killer tribute to the real thing
Mirror Image replica of CSX3002 CSX3002 was the first production 427 Cobra built after the 427 prototype (CSX2196) was built. A modified 289 body, dash and roll bar were used on the CSX3002 chassis as the final features of the 427 body weren’t yet finalized. CSX3002 had a number of unique features and is easily identifiable in vintage pictures due to its shoe box nose mounted oil cooler and fender mounted oil fill cap. It was the only 427 team sponsored Cobra as soon after it was built, Shelby began focusing on the GT40 program. In 1997, a friend visited the Hi Tech Cobra manufacturing facility with the intention of having them build a 427 aluminum replica for him. This was before the day of Kirkham or Shelby aluminum replicas. Hi Tech was in the process of freshening up the real CSX3002 and my friend fell in love with the unique aspects of that car. He commissioned Hi Tech to build a mirror image replica of CSX3002 down to the correct combination of Smith and SW gauges, aluminum heads painted black to disguise their light weight, 24 quart fender mounted dry sump lubrication, and a 42 gallon fuel tank. The car was such an accurate representation of the original CSX3002 that in 1997 it was displayed at the Monterey Historic races along with CSX3002. People were amazed at the accuracy of the CSX3002 replica. I think this car is the perfect blend of the 289 and 427 Cobras, its strong running 427 side oiler and light weight (2150 LB) make for quite a ride. The Cobra is the most widely replicated car in the world and many of the replicas are water downed versions of the original car. I would hope that this car is considered an accurate representation of the original car in look, materials and performance. It’s certainly the closest I’ll get to an original (unless Colin lets me drive his again). CSX3002 Replica Includes: Hand pounded aluminum body and show quality paint Cobra 289 front end and Cobra 427 wide hip rear end Original medium riser 427 Side Oiler Original intake manifold All aluminum medium riser heads (painted black) 12.5 to 1 compression ratio 42 gallon fuel tank 24 quart dry sump lubrication with fender fill cap Side pipe and tuned exhaust system No heater or defroster Quick lift jack pads Halibrand wheels 9 ½ and 7 ½ 12.2 inch rotors with Wilwood calipers Special cooling ducts in both front fenders (as original car) Special fiberglass front brake ducts (as original car) Shoe Box oil cooler (under flat bottom nose) Full race seat ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

These things have to be a handful to drive. I had the ...ahem ...pleasure of riding along with Colin in his 289 (?) Cobra on the highway from Miller Stadium to his shop a few years back...Colin is an excellent driver but that damn little Cobra was wild...

And for that reason...I have never driven with Colin...I've only been passed by him on a go cart track
This Cobra tribute is just beautiful!

Bruce, in my write-up, I failed to mention that I bought this car. It's mine now.

Bill, I think you knew quite a bit about this car through good old Terry.

Tim, that is a very cool car. Next time I'm in town, I would love a ride.

I had it out over the weekend, Steve. It's just terrifying, an absolute blast to drive.
