Default sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!

Back in the summer I was thinking on getting another car. I always wanted to get another 69 nova again and was looking to find a somewhat decent one or maybe even a 66-67 small block, 4 speed chevelle. Could not find any novas but found a pretty nice chevelle at Coffees Corvettes in Scranton, Pa. After not being able to strike a deal on the chevelle I was looking once again.

Entering the scene was good ole Marlin Spotts our resident nova guru! He gave me a phone number of a guy in North Carolina with a 69 SS survivor nova 4 speed. Well that made my day. I contacted the guy so we went back and forth for over a month trying to cut a deal. Neither of us would budge! Again contacting Marlin about the car and having Don White (GTO DON) tell me I BETTER buy it just gave me the little umph I needed for the decision. I knew Marlin and Tommy K. saw the car and Don and I saw some nice pictures of the nova I felt I was ok.

Car was picked up (on all arrangements made by the seller) and delivered the same day, a rainy Friday in October. Pouring rain but it got here. My first survivor car. Old blue lived in California all its life till coming to North Carolina for a brief stay over. I loved the car at first site and knew I was the type of person who could own a survivor. 39,000 original miles with original paint, drive train, interior, exhaust, battery cables, spare tire and clutch. Never been blown in with any paint or any chrome replaced. Even my wife said I did good! And yes Benny it does have some docs!!

In the past few weeks I was able to contact the original owner and have conversations with him about his old car. He was forced to sell in 2004 to a corvette friend of his because he lost his job to NAFTA. He was a strawberry farmer/picker for 40 years. He told me about when he ordered the car from Home Motors in Santa Maria (dealership is still there) in October of 1968 and when he picked it up in late December of 68. I was impressed with his memory.

The car still retains the original black plates with the California dirt clinging to the back. Doing a little maintenance and taking my time and doing some real elbow grease type of cleaning the little nova is looking great! It gets driven every week and will see a couple local car shows in the summer.

Again I would like to thank Marlin for dialing me in on the car, Donny for convincing me it was a good deal, and Jeff Grote (the owner) in North Carolina for being patient and having great communication skills. And thanks for this site and the guys that make it up.

Sam

That's not the original wing nut on the air cleaner. and I'll trade ya a brand new carpet for that bad ol rubber mat.
LeMans blue is my favorite color. I don't know why there weren't more Novas in this color. This thing is just beautiful.
