plastic speedo gear

Need a source for the plastic gear that inserts into the Muncie M series tranny from the reduction housing (mounted to the pass. side of tranny tail housing)

I don't know about the ones for your Muncie but I bought some for my TH-400 from my local Chevy dealer less than 2 years ago. These guys that are selling the gears one Ebay for $12 to $15 each are buying them from Chevy for about $5 each.

Thanks for the info. But here is some ignorance on my part. Comparing my speedo gear with the ones on your recommended sites indicates that mine is fine. It does not spin the internals of my reducer though. When I shine a light down into the hole where the gear normally inserts, there is nothing for the plastic gear to insert into. I can put a straight slot screwdriver down into the reducer hole and spin the reducer mechanism, but my plastic gear just spins freely when inserted into the hole. You are probably missing this part (on the far right).



The site I steered you to shows them. Part number is #54SPK. Ratio Adapter Small Part Kit. Cost shows to be $9.00

That part is called a &quot;driveshaft&quot; or &quot;tang&quot; and is commonly lost out of the speed reducers.

Are you missing the gear on the outgoing shaft of the gearbox?

I have the gear from the &quot;outgoing shaft&quot;. I just removed the reduction assembly and all worked well prior to removal (speedometer worked). Guess I must have dropped the &quot;tang&quot; when removing it. Thanks a bunch guys! [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif[/img]
