Recently purchased a 1975 Corvette which was in storage for many years due to owner dying in 1978. It is a BBC Block ID 3999289 / Aluminum Intake manifold 3933198 (no date code) / Aluminum Holley Dbl.Pumper no choke horn only ID is 12R10552B (at least 750CFM or 800 CFM) / Rock crusher Muncie Close ratio / If this may help no ID on Heads, Spark plug is Autolite 66 / Hooker chrome sidepipe headers / Strange thing is it has all the bells and whistles AC etc and everything works even the clock! Mother of deceased has had it in storage for over 30 years and she lives outside of Canonsburg Pa. She said he had it rebuilt by Yenko in 1976 or 1977 she wasn't sure. Does anyone have any idea on what this is? All my searches on the internet tells me this has an outside chance of being an LS6 BBC. There are no date codes on anything and only casting numbers I gave above. The engine block had a "125 73" in the casting also, which I believe is a 1974 BBC 454. Emeergency brake was removed to fit the Muncie in it. If anyone can be of assistance I would greatly appreciate it!
The mother never drove it, she kept it as a memorial to her son in a heated garage and had it serviced once in awhile, but finally gave it up to his close friend from college. He never knew she had the car and was in town visiting her, after not seeing her in a very long time. I bought it from him for $30K.....I know I am nuts (at least according to my wife)....... |

I am no expert, or mechanic for that matter but, I don't see why anyone would have to remove the emergency brake in order to fit the M22 in the car. As far as I know the M22 is the same size as any other Muncie transmission which the Corvette may have come with; in fact some Corvettes had M22's from the factory and retained the emergency brake.
Also I don't think a '75 Corvette is worh $30k regardless of whether or not it has an LS6 in it or not. Of course the car's value is something that can only be determined by the purchaser; as long as you're happy with it who gives a rat's ass what I, or anyone else, says it's worth? I hope the car turns out to be something special. Post some photos so we can see what you bought. |

There is a machined flat pad on the block behind the water pump as you look down at the motor. It should be stamped with a code there and that will tell you if it is a crate LS6 or LS7. Do you have any paperwork that came with the car that will give you a clue to the history?

Took the valve covers off and found GM part number 3946074 (didn't know where to look before)
But I guess without documentation it is what it is, a great looking Vette with a BBC and a lot of power...... |

It sounds like you might have an over the counter L88 in the car. Now you need to do more research and find out how it got in there.

motion performance used to remove the emergency break in some of the vettes from that period when installing a hone-o-drive. as you look into its history, inquire as to whether it ever had one.

All in all I thank you for you help and support. I am still confused as to it being an LS6 or a L88...... The block number date is a 1974 / 454, and does not fit the L88 profile, but it does have the intake and heads. Just someday I hope to find out for my own satisfaction. Until then drive it and enjoy it......Thanks again! By the way it does not have a Hone-o-drive in it, don't know about the past though as no documents.
