My stepmother's friend passed away and my Pop 'inherited' a cache of 1000's of old Hot Rod and car magazines from 1962 into the 70's... just started going thru them and I found an old Speedway Official program I thought you guys would be interested.
I went there once in 1970 with my peewee baseball team. We were in the pits the day Mario Andretti and the Indy cars were there. I am still a big fan of Formula-1 because of that memorable day. I scanned the program, but seems they are pfd's and I cannot get them to post...can I email them to someone so they can post?? Thanks in advance.. I thought you guys would be interested. max |

I love this aerial foto...you can see Reedman Chevrolet across the street... I beleive they sold 4 COPO Camaros back in the day. Back then, they always advertised as the Largest auto dealer in the world. The program shows Reedman as supplying the Pace Car for the race. They are still in business, although it's Reedman/Toll now. Just bought a car there a few months ago.
The brochure has a writeup on the drivers with AJ Foyt being the most famous. also other intersting facts about the 1963 USAC Stock car series and info on track records and other race info... I guess the track was a perfect circle?? This site is now a Kmart...in the foto the Levittown homes all around with not even a tree yet !! I did not realize they had an 1/8th mile drag strip there...wish it were still around. Anyone been there back in the day?? Why did they close?? |

Management then sold it and it changed hands until 1942 when the US government banned all racing because of WW II. the track sat vacant until 1946 and racing started again. That is when the Dragstip went in. Then due to money issues the track sold it to developers who built K-MART. That track then became Bridgeport in NJ. Your little Bro!! |
