Check out this article in the New York Times. Also has some background info on NICB, the National Insurance Crime Bureau which had the car still listed in its database as having been stolen back in 1968.

Neat story. Some great quotes:
"It was an egocentric muscle car that just came out." "Auto thefts in New York have dropped sharply, to 17,875 last year..."

Cool story. . What's hard to understand is 2 detectives spent 4 days looking for the report on something this old....must've been the steak dinner they were playing for more than the call of duty?? ~ Pete

In the story it says the guy paid around $6000 for the car in early 69. Would that be the price range of an L88 or L89 car?

The sad thing is that a Swedish guy probably lost his money after having payed for the car. Now the money AND the car stays in the US.
