Hey guys, I know this is a bit off topic for this board, but I posted on several plymouth boards without any luck. Since I've never been able to stump anyone on this site, I figured I could at least get pointed in the right direction. Anyway - I drive about 4 hrs round trip for work about 4-5 times a month. This trip takes me through several small towns. There is a 69/70 Road Runner for sale that has been there for about 6 months (outside, of course). The price has been steadily lowered and is now at $500. It looks pretty complete, but would need a complete resto. It is sitting in primer, so who knows what is underneath. Before I stop and look at it, I would like to know what to look for. I know almost nothing about mopars and wouldn't have a clue where to start. Do they have cowl tags, engine stamp, etc.? If it would be worth it, all I would do is buy the car and sell it to save it and maybe make a few bucks. Can anyone here help me out or at least point me to a board or something where I can get some info? I'll take some pics next time I go down.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Here's a link to Year One's Vin decode below. . I guess the first thing is if it has a Dana rear, buy it no matter what condition the body is! . The motors are stamped on the pad by the distrib. . The fender tags are often missing on Mopars as they're held on by screws and easily removable for safekeeping so if it's missing don't forget to ask if they have it....or any other loose parts. . Have fun! ~ Pete

Get the Vin# of the car located on the dash in front of the drivers seat. That will tell enough of the story! The first 7 digits will tell you the model, engine it left the factory with, the year built and where.

dm, if its a runner the first 2 letters are RM in the vin. to confirm the VIN, pop the hood and look at the radiator support bracket. on the top backside of the support the VIN will show. also, if the fender tags (drivers side fender) are still on the car the VIN appears there too. that would be 3 confirmations of the VIN which would in all likelyhood mean the car is an authentic RR. either way as gemleeus said its worth $500 no matter what.

The motors are stamped on the pad by the distrib. [/ QUOTE ] This is only true w/ the RB motors i.e. 413, 426 wedge, 426 Hemi and 440. The 383 and 400 being low deck motors don't have the pad by the distributor. And YES! if it does have a Dana under it - BUY IT!

Most of the time it is just a partial there, like the last 8. For a possible full vin you have to look in the trunk weatherstrip rail on the drivers side, about 3/4 the way up to the window.
