Default USAF: An Equal Opportunity Employer!

The USAF is an Equal Opportunity employer.
To All,

Be careful. Some woman may have an eye on you.

On Easter this ex-cheerleader was watching a road that lead to a NATO military base in Iraq when she observed a man digging by the road. She engaged the target….and then she shot him. Turned out he was a bomb maker for the Taliban and was burying an IED that was to be detonated when a US patrol walked by 30 minutes later. It would have certainly killed and wounded several soldiers.

The interesting fact of this story is the shot was measured at 725 yards. She shot him as he was bent over burying the bomb. The shot struck him in the butt blowing into the bomb which detonated. He was blown to pieces.

The distance that snipers can hit their targets has always impressed me! I can barely hit 'the broad side of a barn' at 100 yards.

But you can spot the magic hole in a BB rad support or a dual exhaust hanger mounting on the remains of a scrapyard Nova carcass from 500 yards???

725 yards is a "chip shot" for one of our snipers.

Here's an example of the shots being taken in both theaters, the enemy also has plenty of sniper rifles including 50 Cals, thankfully most are not great shots.

These video shots were not taken through the snipers telescopic sight -they were made looking through the spotter's 'scope. The spotter lies right next to the sniper and helps the sniper to find and home in on the target. The sniper is using a 50 calibre rifle. A 50 cal. round is about 7-8 inches long and the casing is about an inch in diameter. The bullet itself is one-half inch in diameter and roughly one and one-half inches long.

Pay close attention to the beginning of the video. A Taliban is under cover at the top of the peak in front of you... when you hear the shot fired just watch what happens.

The sniper is about a half mile or more away!

A Canadian sniper in Afghanistan has been confirmed as hitting an enemy at a range of 2,310 meters, the longest confirmed recorded sniper shot in history. The previous record of 2,250 meters was set by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam in 1967.

The Canadian sniper was at an altitude of 8,500 feet and the target, across a valley, was at 9,000 feet. Canadian sniper units often operate in support of US infantry units, who are grateful for their help. The record lasted only a day, until a 2nd Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters (8000 feet).

The Canadian snipers fire special .50-calibre McMillan tactical rifles, which are bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines.... The Canadian snipers were the only Canadian troops operating without helmets or flak jackets as they had too much other equipment to carry. Each three-man team has one sniper rifle, three standard rifles (Canadian C7s), one of them with a 203mm grenade launcher.
