Default 69 L78 Nova Fan

What type of fan was used on a 69 L78 Nova ?
I have seen a 4 blade non-clutch fan and a 772 7 blade clutch fan mentioned not 100% sure ?

I have seen only a 4 blade non clutch setup on early cars and then a switch to a 5 blade non clutch set up later in the year. I have never seen a 772 clutch style used on a L/78 Nova. Ask Rowdy Rat to help out too..BKH

Thanks for the info my car was built in May 69 so I assume it would have a 5 blade fan. Do these fans have a part # and a date code ?

I need to go back and look at the assy. manual again but,
I was thinking low HP (L-34) came with the 4 blade and L-78's
We're the 5 blade

Post 5 blade fan...

Both engines used the same fan...these fans were notorious for the noise they made as the rpm's went up...most of them were replaced back in the day with a flex fan. Interesting thing is, they actually worked pretty well at cooling the BB motors.

Again, there is a lot of stuff out there about what fan is correct...based on all the info I have seen, including survivor cars, there was never a 4 blade on these engines.

I'm with Tom, in all my years I've never once seen a 4 blade fan on either the L34 or L78 Novas.
