Luzl78 1970 Monte Carlo
I have Jeff's Big block Monte Carlo in the shop for a make over. Overall the car is in very good shape but the New Jersey winters did a number on some of the usual spots. The car will get new wheel wells, quarters, rear window filler panel and most likely a roof skin. The car was a vinyl top car and was removed on the last repaint. The way they filled the holes with brazing and then dimpling the fill holes was the way they did it back them. The skin will need a lot of blocking to get it flat again. To save on labor its way easier just to replace the skin. I just received the sheet metal last night this is where the car is as of today.

Cool project! Where in New York are you? If you are replacing the vinyl roof, you might be able to get away without changing the roof skin.

Buddy, I'm just outside of Albany. Either way the roof skin will need to be flat to install the vinyl top. You can't hide these dents. The roof skin is also very thin from years of surface rust. At the end of the day for the time it will take to get all the rust out of the panel and get the roof skin flat I can replace the roof skin and still be ahead of the game labor wise.

Removed the inner wheel well the other night to find this. I made the repair last night and removed all the old quarter pieces left from cutting it off. I will start mocking the inner outer and quarter tonight.

These Monte quarters fit very good. Overall the first mock up was a success. I need to remove the quarter again to move the outer wheel to close up a gap between the 2. Then I will remove the quarter prep for assembly, weld the wheel wells, prime, and reinstall.
