Default Restoring 14 x 7 SS (AO) Wheels

Just pulled these out of the attic today...they are from circa 1982-83. Going to be restored. A complete matched set of four AO Wheels.

I would find that very informative as I'm sure others would as well! Please do Dan.

Yep, especially the formula for the Correct Gray on the backside.

Edit:
Dan,
How about an extreme close-up shot of the Black/Charcoal on the front of one of those wheels. I'll post the same for one of mine for comparison. Let's see if it shows any indication of a 'metallic bleed' in yours.

Thx,
DC

Good shot here. I'll put my money on them being original. Looks like they barely missed the break when masking. Just another little detail to prove these cars were a long way from perfect when they left the dealerships.

I'll try to put up pix of mine later this afternoon.

Thanks Dan! Hi Mia.

Sully,
I agree completely. And in addition, about a 70%-80% gloss.

I had some Corvette rally wheels powder coated. After a year or so,a little rust started to appear between the centre piece and the rim part that it is welded too. Powder coating doesn't seem to creep into the cracks and crannies. Once the rims are done, you might want to spray a little WD40 or something in there just to keep moisture at bay.

Sam,

Sure will do. However with this resto....they will recieve a modernized version. The wheels will be entirely be powercoated front, middle and back....then they will be masked and the inserts painted black.

Separated the tires from wheels, removed the weights, documented the inside dates....and even had a helping hand.
