I need some advice, I am going to look at a original owner 69 Z with 13K miles. The car has been sitting since the mid to late 70's, so obviously the car will need some TLC to get it going. It is glacier blue with black stripes, flat hood, and the only options it has is rosewood wheel and am/fm radio, no console, and center fuel gauge. The owner worked at a chevy dealership when he ordered it and tried to get factory installed 4 wheel discs because he wanted to road race it, but said he got letters saying it was no longer available, so he ordered all of the JL8 components over the counter and this was installed the day the car hit the lot. His dad had some ties to GM and the 302 was yanked at 2K miles and supposedly a experimental preproduction LT1 was installed. The only non #'s matching item is the trans, the original M20 was swapped for a M22 out of a 70 chevelle. the original 302 comes with the car. If I can get it, what should I give for this car? I know it is not a Yenko,Baldwin Motion,ZL1, etc, but I think its a neat piece, and I don't think I will ever have the chance to buy a 41 year old car from its original owner again. Any input is appreciated, I trust what you guys say from everything I have read here. Thanks in advance.

Assuming the car really looks like one would expect a 13K mile car to look, I would think $50K is the right neighborhood to start in.

What has hurt the market price on the real Z-28 cars of late is that so many of the fakes are being built. Documentation and history is what will give the car the real value. Get anything and everything you can. I agree with Bill that it should be a $50k car if it is all there and was stored properly. If the car is in weak condition you should reconsider this price as it will take alot of $$ to get it back to where it should be.
In restored condition - a documented Z-28 like you describe with 13k miles could sell in the $75-85k range but in today's market it is tough finding the buyers. |

Sounds like a neat car. I am wondering if they used a service package rear end or a replacement JL8 rear end asm. for the 4-wheel disc brakes. The LT1 350 was already in a 1969 Camaro in the blue Maxi so that may of been where they got the idea for the motor. We need to see pictures to get a better idea of the car's value. It will depend on how much is left original and the condition of everything plus the amount of paperwork with the car to back up the story. I would pay very dearly for the right car with that kind of story but it would really depend on it's condition and what can be verified.

I will get pics when I go and look at it again, I think I can salvage about 60%-70% or the original paint, and I will have to check on the JL8 stuff. Thanks.

leave it original
there are far too many restored cars, not enough cars with "character" IMHO
