Need to know if a partial VIN was stamped on the engine and if so where and what was the engine suffix code. Also any other help in identifying a true 1966 L79 Nova if possible

Mahalo Charley, Theres one here for sale (outer island) At least when I get the Info on the engine I know what the Engine Suffix should be, and also know that the VIN was also stamped on the pad also.
Again Mahalo

Charley, The factory engine code stamp looks good, but do you think the VIN# stamp looks suspicious?

That was my first thought too. That's a sloppy VIN, but I don't know enough about Nova stampings to really question it.

I'm not a Nova expert but this was a very untouched car when I pulled the engine out. I'm sure that the L79 experts will concur that that is the way they were stamped.

The vin stamping is exactly like our L79. Jeff, is this car blue by chance. There was a guy here in the NW from Hawaii that had a blue L79 fOR sale for over 2 years asking I think $18K. Car had wheelwells cut for headers, supposedly heater delete that someone had added a heater. Wonder if he took it back to Hawaii with him. Jim

Jeff, if you haven't already, contact (Rich L-79) from Team Chevelle. He and a couple of other guys are the resident experts on these cars and can point out several 'unknowns' to look for when identifying these cars. There have been several recent articles in major magazines that he's authored as well. Let me know if you need his e-mail address.

SS427 thanks for the help and all with the Team Chevelle folks, Didnt think of asking there. Also I have a guy that is lookiing for a 837 altenator for you. The guys house is like walking through a time warp back into the 50/60's Dont know of anyone that would keep 2 50's complete FI systems for 45 years. Heck one has never been mounted.

Jeff, the one expert I recommended tried to register here and was unable. He sent me an e-mail and concurred that it looked legit to him. He stated that most hi-po engines received stamps similar to that.
Thanks for the help on the alternator.I have NO leads yet on a replacement but will have a beautiful restamp for sale as long as someone is not to worried about incorrect dates.
