My '68 Olds has a Powerglide in it. I got the car with the engine (350) out and disassembled, but the 'glide and everything else still bolted in the car. This is the 1st p-glide I've ever owned.. Always had TH350s and 400s or usually I'd convert the car to 4spd if it was an automatic and my driver... Anyway, is this P-glide worth trying to use?? or should I just yank it out of the way right now while it's easy to get to? I've got a '65 TH400 longtail I can use but will need a driveshaft made.. I'm also still itching with the idea of converting it to a 4spd too...

Just my 2cents--If your gonna stay with the 350 --go 4sp/hurst shifter---But since you're building the car and you're a young guy --Put the 4sp ,no matter which engine , and row for fun----I guy I knew back when had his powerglide modified by Vitar, the car like gangbusters, but he was heavy in the street scene....IMO....

P glides suck on the street. To much drop between low and high. I had one in my first car a '57 283 powerpak chev two door post. Best time was 14:20.
If I were you I would go to a 350 or 400 turbo as they are a much better choice and much stronger to boot. Do the 4 speed thing if you are so inclined. They are a lot more fun. What ever you do. Pitch the Pglide they are not what you will want - trust me. Pantera

Glides are good for dragracing if built right! and for going back original! Other than that I would go with something else.I prefer the TH 400,I used to have a 55 chevy with a TH 400 nad a built 350 engine and that had to be the best trans that I ever owned as far as automatics go.I use to drop it in low and wind that baby up and let it shift by itself into second, and it would scratch the tires really well along with snapping your neck back.Had it for 14 years and all I ever did was put new seals in front and rear once!

Yeah I can attest to the TH400.. I had a '79 Jeep Wagoneer years ago with a strong 360/TH400.. the clutches in the trans went out so I rebuilt it completely myself and did all kind of little tricks to it along with installing a full competition shift kit.. basically it was everything a full drag race trans would be except for making it reverse manual shift..
![]() It was awesome .. I destroyed 2 Quadratrack transfer cases with it ![]() ![]()
