Friend got wind of a coupla cars and bought them in a private probate sale. Guy who owned them died many years ago, and estate has been tied up in probate for a long time. Anyhow, he got the inside track and got both of them.
One was an original 71 Nova 2 door post, six powerglide in great condition that he quickly offed for $1500, but the other is a very interesting 64 Bel Air that has been sitting in the garage since 1968 with 9600 original miles on the odo. It has V8 badges on the fender, plastic seal protectors on the seat, mint body and interior (dark blue), but has a 3 speed on the tree with an inline six from a 62 or older in it. There was a stack of newspaper in the trunk from 1968 and a Lif magazine in the rear window dated 1966. Appears it was garaged in the late 60's. That's where it gets interesting, though. It apparently had a factory tach, has the hole in the floor for a 4 speed, has the exhaust hangers for dual exhaust, a capped off fuel return line at the sending unit, 3/8 main fuel line, the shift bowl on the column is unpainted, and the shift linkage pieces still have the GM part number tags on them. Does not have the original wheels/tires on it either. ???????????? Not sure what this car was and doesn't look like it can be traced back (only heir to the estate was committed to a mental hospital recently), but there's enough there to make one wonder what it was originally and would make an unbelievable replica otherwise with the right drive train. Car can be seen in Detroit area, can be bought, hopefully somebody who really knows 64's can figure out what it is. He isn't really in a hurry and has a 409/425 dual quad engine from an old rust bucket and enough parts to put it together that way if it doesn't sell. This guy has 3 other 63 409 cars, and a bunch of other stuff (Hemi Charger, many 442's etc.) PM or email me if serious, I'll hook you up.
