Hi Wilma:
I'm no expert and hate autos but did race a bit with 3000 -5000 stall converters but years ago.Few things I remember is a big trans cooler is a must, you will burn more fuel and it is critical that the converter is matched to your motor, cam, trans, rear end and tire combo.A 400 hp small block will act totally different than a 400 Hp BB with a 3000 stall. The big block may not lock until 3500-3700 which makes street driving no fun.It is critical to make sure the manufactuerer who ever you buy knows all of the data. Sorry I could not be of more help but I am sure there are some experts on the board who will chime in. |

Thanks Mac...I plan on calling a few of the usual suspects..I think the current setup is too tight...we do have a good external cooler...I also plan to add a deep pan with the cooling tubes and trans temp gauge..just feels like it needs a little more flex....thanks again..

Deep Pan with tubes and gauge would surely be a good investment. Ask them why the BB would always lock at a much higher rpm than the converter rating. I thought it may have something to do with the heavy torque but no one ever properly explained it to me. I just know they did it.
Take care Joe |
