This is the Orange L-78, 69 El Camino I recently picked up. It finally stopped raining around here and I was able to get it out of the trailer and into the garage on Fri. By the end of the day today (Sat) the body was ready to pull off the frame. The car has a 350 small block in it now, but will have it's numbers matching 396-375 under the hood, when this project is complete. More pic to follow.

Bill,
Very nice! By the looks of it your extremely ENERGIZED to get this project rolling....I would had done exactly what you did in pulling her all apart right away. A very exciting project. I wish I was there to see it in person....and of course give you a helping hand. The floor looks very solid....are those the original front springs? Does it have tach and gauges? Black vinyl? Dan.

Thanks for the relpys guys, but it's been brought to my attention (on Team Chevelle) that perhaps I didn't word the discription very well and the the car was being misrepresented. I'd just worked on the car for 14 hours.
A previous owner stuck the small block and 3 speed trans in the car years ago and saved the original 396-375/M-20. The block/trans came with the car, although they both need parts and a complete rebuild, as well as the original rear. Actually, I just bought a complete rebuilt trans from a friend. I just have to put all the patrs from that trans into the original and that will be good to go. Most of the engine parts are on their way, and the rear should be finished in a week or so. Thanks for the replys guys. I'll post pics, as progress proceeds, if the folks are interested. __________________ |

Keep us entertained Bill. Most of us get bored over the winter months and look forward to seeing how REAL car guys spend their free time.

Quick update:
I got the carb back from resto today. Bolted it down, as well as some other odds and ends. Quick question: The assembly manual isn't real clear on how the pcv hose should be routed. Does this look correct? Does that bracket on the front/right carb stud, holding the hose look right? Just the smog now, which is coming back from resto soon, and the chassis is ready. Started the body work a couple weeks ago. New quarter/rocker, all the seam sealer is removed and the bed/under body/firewall will be blasted. Doors and tailgate stripped & ready for primer. It's all moving along better that I'd anticipated. ![]() |
