Schonye,
I think I remember back in Linda's original thread that Earl may have modified the mounting plates by removing the shock mounting points. I'll see if I can find the thread. ![]()

Here is Linda's posting from 6 Feb 2006 wrt the modification to the traction bar mounting plate area:
Earl says he bought the traction bars at Auto Parts store on Gompers Avenue. I think this was Sam's Papa's store. Earl's uncle Jack Rising used to work for this store. Earl says there were brackets on the bars for the shocks to bolt to but he cut them off so he didn't have to take the sway bar off . Then he built a set for the neighbor's Nova. He says he put the traction bars on because he was tired of hearing the springs rap when he power shifted. One night we took the car to the Cadet down at Kittanning. After we had everyone's attention by driving through a few times, I got behind the wheel and took it through the parking lot. At the end of the lot where it was dark we did a quick driver swap and Earl burned it out of the lot and slapped it through the gears out on 422. Then we switched back and I drove it back through the parking lot so everyone thought I was the one horsing it. We had a lot of fun that night.

Nice pics Sam! The 'CTB' in yellow on the side(s) of the block is consistent with other original engines, as is the white 'X's on the ends of the heads. The extra yellow writing is also consistent with others, although each engine seems to have different writing - my engine has a yellow 'JH' for example, written in paint with a long horizontal run down the side of the oil pan. The casting date of the engine is fairly early compared to others, as many were cast on the 18th then assembled on the 20th.
Cool slapper bars!

Original "SS" Wheels are in very nice shape and so are the original Yenko caps. ![]() Just in passing 3 of the wheels are dated A 20 and 1 is A 17. Joe

Cool. I just talked to your Pappy about this a few minutes ago!
![]() Hey Marlin. All indications from the Roofs are that these 4 wheels (and the XT spare) are original to the car. Do other Deuces have this much spread between wheel assembly and car production (i.e 4 1/2 mos)?

The wheels are definitely original to the car. Earl says we didn't even own a set of torches back then, he cut the brackets off the slapper bars with a hack saw.
Schonye, Everything looks GREAT in the pictures!!! Can't say how much it means to us that Sam is keeping this car day 2. I had always thought that if it was restored to original it would be like every other deuce out there and loose some of it's personality. This way it will still feel like it was once "our" car. I really can't wait to see it all back together!! |
