In these times it is challenging to sell an expensive, rare car.
My 1966 1 of 11 BASE Coronet HEMI 4 speed 2 door sedan is for sale and I am willing to look at trades plus cash and multiple car trades for those of you who have limited cash and cars that you would need to sell in order to get into a car like this. I have a large email and photo bucket album link with lots of pictures and documentation I can email to SERIOUS buyers. I don't want to be mean about this, but please don't waste my time with dreams. Be realistic with what you have and what you can do financially. My car is in Arizona and I welcome personal inspections. [email protected] $95,000. 1966 HEMI CORONET 1 OF 11 BUILT NUMBERS MATCHING as decoded with the use of Galen Govier's white books. The V.I.N. tag, fender tag, and broadcast sheet have been decoded. All of the Hemi specific tell tale signs are there. I welcome personal inspections. 426 dual quad Hemi Head engine, 4 speed trans. V.I.N. WE21H67140*** The last three digits not shown for security purposes. WHAT HAS BEEN DONE: ENGINE: 1. Complete NHRA Stock Eliminator class legal rebuilt of the original date code correct 1966 Hemi engine. (They did not put the V.I.N. on the engine or trans in 1966.) 2. The engine is balanced, blueprinted, and built to maximum potential for the class. $20K was spent doing so. 3. Original intake without heat riser. 4. Original rebuilt 66 hemi carbs. 5. Original recored 66 Hemi radiator. 6. Hooker Super Comp headers. 7. Full exhaust with turn down tail pipes at the rear. 8. X pipe and side dumps at the front bypassing the remaining system for opened headers at the strip. TRANS: 1. A rebuilt, slick shifted, original Chrysler Hemi 18 spline 4 speed trans. 2. New Hurst Competition Plus shifter. 3. A new short throw "E" body Pistol Grip shifter handle. CLUTCH: 1. Ram Clutches 10.5" 1200 lb. adjustable clutch set up 2. Lakewood blowproof scattershield. REAR END: 1. Original 1966 Dana rear end completely rebuilt. 2. Detroit Locker. 3. 4.56:1 gears. SUSPENSION: 1. Hemi torsion bar replaced with lighter weight bars for better weight transfer. 2. Custom fit to floor pan frame connectors. 3. Adjustable pinion snubber. 4. Adjustable shocks. 5. New original type Hemi suspension rear leaf springs. 6. Polygraphite suspension items replacing the original rubber. This car simply lifts, hooks and flys down the track straight. INTERIOR: 1. NOS seat material sewn in the original pattern. 2. Door panels and arm rest are original and are rated 8 out of 10 in condition. 3. New replacement rubber floor mat. 4. Original factory no radio, no heater controls block off plates. 5. Custom mounted Autometer white face tac, oil, and temp gauges. 6. NOS replacement speedometer. GLASS: 1. Original date coded clear glass. 2. All glass is original INCLUDING the windshield with no cracks. SHEET METAL & PAINT: 1. This is an all original sheet metal, no accident, no rust, California car. 2. It is not undercoated and all of the virgin under body metal can be seen with ease. 3. It has been repainted but has DA waves in the paint. 4. When the original, cracked, smelly, rubber floor mat was pulled up, it took about 1/2 of the metal in the front floor pans with it in a big sheet. The car had leaked at the wiper posts (still does) and water had collected in the jute backing and rotted the front floor pans at the lowest points ONLY. This is not visable from under the car. I chose to fiberglass mat and resin this area on the inside for strength rather than replace the floor pans in this area as it is only visable if you pull the rubber floor mat. The only other rust on this car is under the battery tray from battery acid leaking. 5. I have an extra hood and an aftermarket fiberglass Hemi hood scoop that I had planned on having to be able to switch back and forth with the original hood. I was going to paint it matt Black and with the Black steel wheels with chrome lug nut so it would somewhat emulate the look of a 1969 440 six pack cars. TRIM: 1. What there is, the bumpers have been rechromed. 2. The grille and surrrounds have been refinished. There is a small ding in the left surround from someone recently backing into it at a repair shop. 3. The front and rear windshields trims is very good. 4. There is one Coronet script that is broken and needs to be replaced. TIRES AND WHEELS: 1. Black steel REAR wheels 15" X 7" with factory chrome lug nuts. 2. New 9" Slicks NHRA stock class legal. 3. Black steel FRONT wheels 14" X 5" with factory chrome lug nuts. 4. PR205 X14" radial front tires. DOCUMENTATION: 1. Numbers matching title, V.I.N. tag, fender tag, and broadcast sheet. 2. Fender tag and broadcast sheet match the S.O. # on the radiator core support. 3. First title for this car is in my name, "A" box original miles at 3661 miles. 4. Original V.I.N. tag indicating model and engine, as does the fender tag and the broadcast sheet. 5. Letter from Chrysler Historical regarding IBM card request. WHAT IT NEEDS: 1. The paint is the weak point of this car. The recommended painter turned out to NOT be the guy to paint this car. He danced a DA down the sides of the car and it has waves in the paint. It is in the paint NOT the metal. It needs to be blocked and repainted. The under hood, trunk and door jams don't need to be redone. I tell you this because it will not show up in the pictures, just trying to be honest here as I have nothing to hide about this car. 2. The dash pad is sun cracked and needs to be replaced. 3. The steering wheel under the wrap is sun cracked and needs to be restored. 4. The rear wheels need to be drilled and the slicks screwed to keep from rotating on the wheels. 5. Front end alignment and a little tweaking here and there. 6. New window track felt/cat whiskers A FEW EXTRA PARTS: 1. A set of 4 nice original hub caps 2. An extra factory steel hood 3. A fiberglass aftermarket Hemi hood scoop 4. An original Inland shifter handle. All of these items go with the car. I also have all receipts and machine card for this car. There were thirty four 1966 base model Coronets built with a Hemi, 23 with an automatic trans and 11 with a 4 speed. This is one of those 11 BASE Coronets built with the 426 Hemi and 4 speed. WE21H are the first 5 characters of the V.I.N. which decodes to W=Dodge, E=Economy model, 21=2 door sedan, H=Hemi engine. This was the bare bones Coronet model with the least amount of trim and economy interior with rubber floor mat rather than carpet. The car was factory equipped with only ONE option, the 426 dual quad Hemi Head engine. The 4 speed was standard as was the heater. A radio was optional and this car was NOT ordered with one. The standard items that you got when ordering the Hemi with the 4 speed were the police suspension, (later called Hemi suspension) police brakes, a Dana 3.54:1 Sure Grip rear end, H.D. cooling system, and some Hemi specific frame strengthening componants. The heater was removed after the car was delivered and has the factory heater control delete plate was installed on the dash, it must have been done very early in the cars life when the plate was still available. I hesitate to refer to this car as either restored or a survivior as it is a little of each but does not qualify in my opinion as either. This was not a rotisserie restored car, but rather replacing/repaired keeping the car as original as possible. It is not a rotisserie restoration as the front clip was never removed, but the entire drivetrain WAS removed, as well as all of the suspension leaving just the body shell. The underside was repainted in an original type primer paint look. It is not a paint dobb, grease pencil, cosmoline coating restoration. Rebuilt assemblies were painted without consideration to these silly things. If that is what you are looking for keep moving, it is not this car. The car was ordered to be an off road, race only car when new and was never titled or licensed until I purchased the car. I purchased it from the ex-wife of the second owner. Unfortunately he let the car sit uncovered in the California sun for over 10 years ruining the original paint and interior. The car only had 3600 miles on it and had some modifications (which have now been changed back to original) over the years it was raced but had never been cut up, caged, tubbed or anything like that. I forgot to mention that this car has been upgraded to a dual master cylinder. Too dangerous at the end of the 1/4 mile in this car to trust a single. I have an NOS single master cylinder in the box that goes with the car. |

I am curious why you would fiberglass the repaired floor section instead of doing the more 'correct' metal repair. It kind of seems out of place on a car which is mostly original or period correct.

I am curious why you would fiberglass the repaired floor section instead of doing the more 'correct' metal repair. It kind of seems out of place on a car which is mostly original or period correct. [/ QUOTE ] The reason it was done that way is because when I pulled the original cracked rubber floor mat, the jute backing had fused to the floor boards in the very lowest part of the front floor pans. The wiper post seals leaked which is very common on these cars. Anyway, when I pulled the mat a sheet of the floor pan came off with it. It reduced the thickness of the floor pans in this area ONLY by about 1/2. The floor pans under the car in this area are just as virgin as the rest of the car and there is no indication of what happened. I fiberglassed this area for STRENGTH. I did not want the floor boards from the under side to show that they had been replaced. The only people that will ever see this will be someone that pulls the new floor mat. OTOH, I wanted to disclose it to any potential buyers. I would rather have someone pleasantly suprised when the see the actual car vs. pictures and discription. |
