What's it Worth
Being it's a 3:73 and a September 1969 date, it would have most probably came in a 396 / 375 car. Only 3:31 and 4:10 came with MOST 454's. That being said I value it at $3500.00 FWIW.

What's the code on the tube? 3.55 would have been the standard gear for a 1970 L78 with 4.10 being optional. I don't think a 3.73 was offered in 1970 Chevelles.

It wasn't,but a 2.73 posi was,(Non SS)...could it be a 2.73 you have there?
The 1970 Camaro was available from the factory with a 3.73 though. Last edited by Mr70; 10-25-2018 at 03:20 PM. |

FWIW, I had a 10/21 stamped CRV rear. Seems a bit ahead of the game. IF I'm correct, chevy had everything in place for the 454 debut but the revised Muncie?? Kinda makes it seem plausible.

70 Camaro would be COZ coded for 3.73

September 69 is way too early for a 70 Camaro , not to mention the leaf spring-coil spring difference.

Agree,I wasn't trying to say he has a 3.73 COZ Camaro rearend there,(as I'm sure Rich knows the difference),just that that was the only 1970 Chevrolet car model that could get one from the factory I believe.

I bought a 1970 Chevelle SS396 when I came home from Vietnam in early 1971. It had a 4-spd and the 3.73 posi. I can't tell you the build date of the car or the axle code because it wasn't important at the time. It does seem that at least a few were built with that ratio.

No 1970 GM A-body came with factory-installed 3.73 gears. Some Olds W27 option rear, W30 442 , 4-speed non-AC guys will try to say different but I have yet to see docs out of one of 'em.
