Received some neat orange surprises recently. Al Gartzman is one of Gordy's good friends from Chicago. They used to run around together when Gordy had his S/S. I run into him occasionally and saw him a couple of weeks ago at the Pavillions as he lives out here now. He asked me if I had ever heard of these (see photo) and I told him I had seen them on vintage cars over the years occasionally. Al used to have a sweet '62 421 hipo Pontiac but got rid of it and asked me if I would want these for my '62. He bowled me over. What a decent gesture. He told me where these plates came from which I did not know. Anyone know what these plates were used for (I obviously don't get out enuff)?

Continuing with the orange theme. I received this letter in the mail last week from Jerry Z., the second owner of the Super Stock. Just blew me away.

Steve - that's about right. As Al explained to me he got them from the "Currency Exchange" i.e. places that you got yr check cashed in the Chicago area. These stores would also double as proxy for dept. of motor vehicle where you could get your new plates. These samples would be displayed on the wall behind the counter to show what the new (each year they changed) colors were.
BTW, Al worked at Nickey Chevrolet for a few years in the parts dept. ![]()

That is a beautiful '62 Plymouth, I wonder if it is the same shade of blue Bill Hanyon of Milne Brother's Plymouth ran? As some can remember, Bill Hanyon Blair's speedshop tuned 413 blue '62 Savoy shut down all 1963 426 max wedge cars for S/SA class at the 1963 Pomona winternationals! Can you ask Gordy if he recalled racing Bures Hall or Bob Delia 409 and Z-11 427's in the same Chicago area? Thanks!!
