Well time permitted me to pick up the two engines and haul home for rebuilding so what happened to "The Great Caswell" L-88 block.......upon inspection it appears that #1 rod had a bolt loosen then split in half causing the rod cap to bang around and exit the side of the oil pan, here's what's left of the bearing....




And damage the #2 piston boss as shown....other than that it has true L-88 internals, 7115 crank, 8911 cam, dimple rods, correct push rods, all with very little use.







Here's the original L-78 coming out of the evapo rust, getting ready to turn it over and soak the remainder.





Trans will be gone thru as well.





Original manifolds look to have been removed soon after new, still factory paint on the upper edge.






That's all for now, will be taking both to Mark Jones this weekend for rebuild.
