It's all relative.

I was pumping gas in 1969. If we were 24.9˘ and the Sinclair station across the street was 26.9˘ there would be a line down the street waiting to save that 2˘/gal. The Sinclair attendant would be in a lawn chair, working on his tan.

Lots of VWs around in those days.

As for me, I probably grossed $14 for my 8-hour shift. Much better than my 1st job at a drive-in, where I grossed $8.80 for an 8-hour shift.

The minimum wage in 1969 was $1.60/hr. In 2025 dollars, $14.22. I have no idea why younger people think life was so much easier in the '60s.
