Jim Mattison's statement here in the Yenko thread was several years after Gary had first talked to him about the Silver Judge. While Jim and I were talking in private, he told me that he did not realize the Judge being talked about in this thread was Gary's Judge until after I had mentioned Gary's name in an email. Not that it makes any difference to Mattison's statement, because in fact it would appear without a doubt that no production line cars received V motors. I think we have all come to agree on that, I know I have.
To depart from the Knafel debate, here are some engineering truths and strong possibilities. Please remember that there was for fact; according to several Pontiac Engineers, 1 Black 70 GTO that had a V installed in Engineering. The car was used as a plant get around car. The Marty Schorr interview in which he claims several V cars to be running around Milford. Then there is Tom Goad’s 69 TA, it is highly probable engineering installed that motor too.
Over on Performance Years board some one called Sweetmuscle has made an interesting post. Most people over on PY go stealth on their ID’s, so I have no clue who it is, but it would appear to be legitimate as posted.
JUDGE RAM AIR IV RACE CARS
This is not related to the Knafel or V issue, but it helps validate up a point that Tom Nell just talked about in his recent HPP interview. Tom revealed that they did help drag racers out the back door. Tom was heavily involved in the V program with Jeff Young and Herb Adams.
