The SD455s were mid 13 second cars in stick trim. They were truly frightening cars with a set of headers. And all that power with A/C, too! And they also handle amazingly well, far better than a similar era Z/28.
Enjoy. P.S. When you restore the car DO NOT take that engine apart if it is running nicely to begin with. Nothing runs like a survivor SD455. As far as I know, no one makes the small gear camshafts for these cars, that mate with the large gear distributors that were unique to the SD455. ...and if you don't want those headers, I'll take them. In my opinion, the 73-74 SD-455 is still the most impressive powerplant of the muscle car era. A steel intake, EGR system, .410 lift cam, 8.4 to 1 compression, no Ram Air, 3.42 gears (3.08 with a/c), super restrictive exhaust, and pushing a 3600-3800 lb car. There was SO much untapped potential there.
And yes, with all that, they cornered like they were on rails.
