Shay Nichols is thought to have raced ZL-1 #5 N608381 Dusk Blue auto. The car in the photo with her has a white standard interior; no production ZL-1 had white standard. There are better photos that show the same interior. Would a ZL-1 have run in C/SA?

Either she didn't have a ZL1 or they had two race cars with identical paint jobs.

When it comes to production figures and options it has been my experience and observation to never say "never." The interior could have been easily swapped for one of another color (white) to match the Camaro's custom paint job. Or another possibility: just maybe, her Camaro was a 'regular' Camaro with an ZL-1 engine swapped in by Dick Harrell's shop.

You're right, no ZL-1 would've or could've raced in C/SA (if indeed that is what it says on the windshield) but you have to remember that those were AHRA classes which were not exactly on par with the same classes as in NHRA as well as more liberal and were allowed more (non-stock) modifications as compared to their NHRA counterparts.

To the best of my knowledge, Shay only had one ZL-1 Camaro.
